The following is a sample list of student organizations at Tufts that have some components related to children, families and their communities.

Child Development Association is composed of undergraduate students from the Eliot-Pearson Dept. of Child Development. Contact: George Scarlett, PhD at 617-627-3355.

Coalition for Social Justice & Nonviolence strives to increase awareness and activism around broad issues of social justice and nonviolence. They promote solidarity and communication between existing campus organizations, and network with off-campus groups and organizations around these issues.

Education for Public Inquiry and International Citizenship (EPIIC) works to promote the active engagement of young people in global and national issues and to create tangible, collaborative relationships within and among the academy, the general public, and the professional community. Its main components include a year-long academic colloquium, research and internship program, professional workshops, an international symposium, a media forum, and public service initiatives. Hillel Social Action Committee offers many opportunities for volunteer work, as well as social, cultural, and religious activities. Every year, Hillel hosts Read by the River, a program where Tufts' student volunteers provide various fun reading-related activities for kids from Medford, MA. Email: hillel@tufts.edu.

Leonard Carmichael Society (LCS) is the largest student organization at Tufts for volunteer work. Issue areas include homelessness and hunger, youth mentoring, literacy and education, health issues, and other special interest programs. LCS also includes chapters of national organizations such as the Big Brothers, and UNICEF. Contact: 617-627-3643 or lcs@tufts.edu.

Oxfam Café is a completely student-run organization that provides affordable vegetarian food to people on the Tufts campus. All persons involved with the cafe are volunteers and all proceeds benefit Oxfam America. Located in Miller Hall, across from Hillel. Email: oxfamcafe@tufts.edu

Public Health at Tufts (PHAT) serves as a resource for students who may be interested in pursuing a career in public health. It is also for students just interested in learning more about public health.

Radical Student Network serves as a medium by which student organizations at various universities can communicate with each other on a variety of issues. Email: info@radicalstudentnetwork.org

TFAP - Tufts Food Awareness Project is a program initiated, developed, and run by Tufts students, to educate the university community about environmentally and socially responsible food choices.

The Tufts Literacy Corps (TLC) is Tufts University's response to the "America Reads" and "America Counts" Challenges. Established in 1997 through Tufts' Center for Reading and Language Research (CRLR) and the Eliot-Pearson Department of Child Development, TLC's mission is to help all children in Medford and Somerville succeed in school.

Tufts Pre-Med Society seeks to promote an understanding of our healthcare system, support our members in their entrance to medical schools, and seek to increase the well-being of our community - both on campus and beyond - through local projects, community service, and active citizenship. TuftScope - Interdisciplinary Journal of Health, Ethics, and Policy was originally created by Tufts undergraduates as a discussion vehicle for the academic community to discuss the ethical and political implications of our healthcare system and ongoing biomedical research. It has since expanded into a peer reviewed journal which strives to connect bioethics to active citizenship. Contact: TuftScope@tufts.edu.

United Leaders strives to inspire students to pursue honorable careers in political service by involving them in politics as a means for social change. They connect 18-24 year olds with the tools, resources, support, and network necessary for them to pursue careers in political service. Contact: info@unitedleaders.org or 617-876-6700.
